Junior Golf

Each year, during the summer, Mallard Cove hosts 3 golf camps for juniors.  Campers must be between the ages of 7 and 12.  They are divided into groups of like age and skill level.  Instruction is lead by the PGA Head Golf  Professional. We conduct a skills inventory on Day one.  Days two and three are specific instruction in groups. Day four is Tournament and FUN Day. We  have teams compete for prizes.  Awards are given out during the Pizza Party. Each camper receives a golf camp tee shirt.   Campers do not need to have their own equipment.  We can supply them with the proper equipment for the week.

In 2004, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury secured 1 out of 4 spots chosen nationally from over 100 applications to the Tiger Woods Foundation.  The selection of the CPPJ application allowed us to host a Tiger Woods Clinic and Festival event.  It was the passion of local PGA Golf Professionals to work with and mentor juniors that ultimately led the Tiger Woods Foundation to select our area for this event.  In the two years that have passed, the Golf Pros have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to develop their program by which to capture kids in our community who would not have otherwise had an opportunity to learn the game.  The Calcasieu Parish Junior Golf Program uses donations from the local business community to subsidize underprivileged children.  Through an application process, and approval process, many children in our community have already been given the opportunity to learn the game of golf.  And, many more will in the future.  They are given access to local golf courses and local golf professionals for golf instruction.
