| TUTEN PARK GRAND OPENING & ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION Saturday, April 28th 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. 3801 Nelson Rd, Lake Charles, LA The City of Lake Charles will hold a grand opening and Arbor Day celebration for the newly renovated Tuten Park, 3801 Nelson Road, on Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. At 9 a.m. there will be a grand opening ceremony followed by a tree planting ceremony. The land for this park was donated by the late Frank Tuten and his request was that it be used for people to enjoy the area in its natural habitat. Interactive booths for the public to visit throughout the celebration will include the following: McNeese State University, Team Green of Southwest Louisiana, Junior Team Green, Lake Charles Garden Club, Diggers and Weeders Garden Club of Lake Charles, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of Louisiana Pines to the Gulf, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Home Depot, Calcasieu Parish Public School and private schools, the Louisiana Urban Forestry Council and City of Lake Charles Recreation and Parks. A variety of activities will be offered at the event, including a nature scavenger hunt, a hydrological cycle demonstration, workshops to create bird feeders and planter boxes, tree experiments, and wildlife displays. Also, the City's "reTREE LC" program will be giving out 50 trees and T-shirts.
Tuten Park, a 24 acre Woodland Park that is a sanctuary for birds and host to native flowers and trees. Master Plan includes nature trails, picnic areas, exhibits, wetland ponds, preserved forest, children's playground, lookout tower, and other unique urban features.
