Dana first began serving the public as an appointed member of the Lake Charles Board of Zoning and Adjustments. Two years later he was elected to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury where he represented District 7 for eight years. He served the La. Police Jury Association as Vice Chairman of the Criminal Justice Committee and was on the Economic Development Committee for NACO (National Association of Counties). Dana ran for City Council in 2005 and currently serves the southeast area of Lake Charles.
An avid McNeese Cowboy fan, Dana was twice elected president of the McNeese Cowboy Club. He is proud of the cap collection, which is displayed on the south side of the Cowboy Club room at the stadium. In 1995, he bet the booster club president of every opposing team on the schedule that year that McNeese would win the game. The winning club president walked away with a cap from the other team. McNeese won EVERY game that year and advanced to the finals.
Jackson and his wife, the former Melody Carter, have two children, Chris Jackson and Jill Deason, both graduates of McNeese and professionals in the community. They are members of Trinity Baptist Church.
Dana's desire is to serve the people of the city with integrity, while promoting economic development, availability of affordable housing, and safe neighborhoods. He also wants to see Lake Charles grow and prosper, allowing our children to be able to remain in Lake Charles and find high standards of employment and quality of life.
