Firefighter Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Citizen of the United States
  • Posses and maintain a valid Louisiana driver's license
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or valid certificate of equivalency issued by a state department of education
  • Must pass a written examination
  • Must pass a medical examination
  • Must pass a physical abilities test
  • Must pass an oral interview
Lake Charles Fire Department Benefits:
  • Annual base pay of $23,849.28
  • State Supplemental pay of $5100.00 per year after the completion of 1 year of service.
  • Eligible for retirement after 25 years of service
  • Health and life insurance at no cost to employee; family coverage available-paid for by employee
  • Eighteen days of paid vacation after completion of one year of service
  • On-the-job training with state certification upon successful completion of course
  • Uniforms and firefighting protective clothing furnished by the city
  • Continuing in-service training to stay current on latest techniques and equipment
  • Authorized leaves for personal illness, family illness, and funeral leave as per civil service law
