Grand Marshal Announced for Red White Blue & You Parade

2014 Red White Blue and You Grand Marshal

The City of Lake Charles is calling for entries into the Fourth of July Red White Blue & You Parade. Applications are now being accepted for parade units including floats, marching units, vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and golf carts. There is no fee to enter and all are welcome, from businesses and organizations to individuals and families. All entries are invited to use red, white, and blue star-spangled decorations to add to the patriotic spirit of the parade. The parade will roll on Ryan Street from Mill Street to Seventh Street beginning at 6 p.m.

Seven year old Emma Leger will fulfill the duties of the 2014 Grand Marshal. Emma was diagnosed with leukemia a year ago. Although she has seventeen more months of chemotherapy, Emma's parents, Tracie and Paul, say she accepts and manages her medical treatments bravely. Said Tracie, “Emma is a selfless child who puts others first. I have met many people who have expressed how their lives have been touched by meeting Emma. She is a true hero.”  Emma is looking forward the third grade at St. John Elementary. She enjoys horses, singing, dancing, gardening, her two dogs and playing football with her brothers.

Other activities will begin at 7pm at the Civic Center Arcade Pavilion. The program includes Blue Grass music from Market Blue, a concert by the Lake Charles Community Band and recognition of the Armed Forces. There will be on-site food vendors and festival t-shirts for sale. The evening will be topped off with a fireworks extravaganza over the lake. All events are free. For entry forms and rules, go to, email or call 337-491-9159.
