City Conducts Public Meeting on Ryan
Streetscape Ongoing Construction

The City of Lake Charles conducted a public meeting today in the City Council Chambers of City Hall to discuss upcoming phases in the ongoing construction of the Ryan Streetscape project.

Phase seven, the Broad St. at Ryan St. intersection medallion project, is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 5 and conclude end of April.  During this phase, access to the Broad at Ryan intersection southeast corner parking lot will not be interrupted.

Phases eight and nine, Broad St. to Division St, east and west sides, are scheduled to begin on Friday, April 27 and conclude mid-July.

Traffic detour signs will be placed in the vicinity of the phase seven, eight and nine areas that are temporarily closed to vehicular traffic.

To allow for utility upgrades, electrical utility outages in the 700 block of Ryan St. will be planned in advance and scheduled for Sunday, April 15, April 22, and April 29, from approximately 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., until finished.

Pedestrian access to businesses will not be interrupted and pedestrian bridges will be created to accommodate foot traffic to businesses within the affected area.

Ryan Street Streetscape is a bond issue project and part of the 2010 Lakefront Downtown Action Plan.  The goal of the project is to calm traffic and provide pedestrian friendly improvements that will bolster economic development in the Downtown District.
