Partners in Parks Inve$t in Your Neighborhood Workshop Planned

Plans are underway for a free Inve$t in Your Neighborhood Workshop on Saturday, November 3, at Wiley B. McMillan Community Center (343 Goos St.). The event will take place from noon to 3 p.m.

An event of Mayor Nic Hunter’s Partners in Parks initiative, the workshop is being presented by the City of Lake Charles and Project Build a Future.

The workshop will feature housing information, opportunities to complete a housing needs survey, information on lending and other banking services, future and retirement planning information, information on wills, successions, expungements and other legal issues, free tax preparation and financial literacy games for kids.

“Project Build a Future’s mission is to build, promote and revitalize our targeted area of North Lake Charles through quality, affordable homeownership,” said Charla Blake, event organizer and executive director of Project Build a Future. “The City’s new Partners in Parks initiative offers us the perfect opportunity to create a one-stop-shop of information and services from our partners, putting us one step closer to our goal of developing high quality, affordable homes as well as helping our community realize their dreams through individualized financial planning and goal setting.”

The Partners in Parks initiative was unveiled by Mayor Hunter in July and is aimed at bringing together public and private entities to invest in park infrastructure and programming. Since its launch, more than half a million dollars have been raised and multiple free events, aimed at re-energizing City parks, have been organized by various community groups.

“Our city parks make up a critical component of the fabric of our community. They offer a safe place for families to learn, play and socialize,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “Events like this Inve$t in Your Neighborhood Workshop are the perfect example of what we are hoping to accomplish with Partners in Parks. This is event is a prime example of what we can do as a community when public and private partnerships are leveraged.”

The Inve$t in Your Neighborhood Workshop is being presented in partnership with Southside Machine Works, Pedestal Bank, Lakeside Bank, First Federal Bank of Louisiana, iberiaBank, the Southwest Louisiana Law Center, Southwest Louisiana Credit Union and the United Way of Southwest Louisiana.
