The Time Capsule Opening Ceremony, Parade and Family Concert planned for this Saturday, April 22, have been rescheduled due to the threat of inclement weather.

The Centennial Time Capsule, buried in 1967, will be unearthed at 1911 Historic City Hall, 1001 Ryan Street, prior to Downtown at Sundown on Friday, May 26, 2017.

Among numerous other items, the time capsule includes Centennial coins and souvenirs, tape recorded messages to the Governor in 2017 from Governor John McKeithen and to the Mayor of 2017 from Mayor James Sudduth.

Following the unearthing of the time capsule, Boomerang will take the stage from 6 to 9 p.m. for week two of the Downtown at Sundown Concert Series.

The planned events are free to the public. Food vendors will be on-site selling food and refreshments, and local artisans will be displaying and selling unique creations. The City of Lake Charles Recreation and Parks Department will provide activities for kids.

The Sesquicentennial Parade of Festivals will be rescheduled for a later date.

Plans for fall events are currently underway. A historical exhibit, titled 150 Years of Lake Charles, will open on Friday, September 29, at 1911 Historic City Hall. A community event on the Lakefront Promenade is being planned for Saturday, September 30, and local churches are invited to participate in a community-wide prayer service at their individual church on Sunday, October 1.

American Press Sesquicentennial Calendars are still available for a $5 donation at Historic City Hall. Historic City Hall is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
