The City of Lake Charles and Keep Greater Lake Charles Beautiful – Team Green, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and Keep Louisiana Beautiful, will hold its 2017 semi-annual Adopt-A-Spot cleanup on Saturday, March 25, beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until each area has been cleaned.

Through the Adopt-A-Spot citywide program, individuals, neighborhood groups, civic organizations and businesses can play an active and ongoing role in cleaning, greening and beautifying parks, shorelines, storm drains, streets, trails and other public spaces. Volunteers have adopted more than fifty sites around Lake Charles. Pick Up days are planned twice each year.

“With the help of these community volunteers, we can clean up the entire city twice a year in one morning,” said Lake Charles Mayor Randy Roach. “When you see a volunteer on the side of the road picking up their ‘spot,’ it reminds us of our shared responsibility to take care of our city and to help keep it clean.”

Signs are installed around the city to identify a volunteer group’s ownership of the adopted location. Volunteers are also provided with garbage bags and safety vests.

Currently the city is recruiting additional groups or volunteers to adopt a roadway. If interested in participating in the event or becoming an Adopt-A-Spot sponsor, please contact Blake Trahan at 491-1481 or Carly Suratt at 532-5508.
