On Exhibit at 1911 City Hall
Rita Posselt, New Orleans photographer, will host an opening reception for Open Shutters on the Big Easy, Friday, January 13 from 5:30-8 p.m. at 1911 City Hall Arts and Cultural Center, 1001 Ryan Street. The collection includes images of the French Quarter, Mardi Gras, Jazz Funerals, musicians and celebrations. Posselt said, "New Orleans culture is like none other on earth. I work to capture the spirit of the people who laugh in the face of adversity, and celebrate at the drop of a hat."
Posselt was born in Marinette, Wisconsin and moved to New Orleans 1972. During her of 33 years as a French Quarter resident and photographer, she owned the Posselt-Baker Gallery 1984-1990. She spent 2 years in Paris and Paros, Greece as a tour guide before returning to New Orleans. She served as an archive photographer for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival Foundation in 2008 where she was assigned the blues and gospel tents. Posselt's work has been in numerous exhibitions and publications nationwide, as well as CD covers. Shutters on the Big Easy will hang through March 15.
Historic City Hall is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are gladly accepted. For more information, please call 491-9147.
