Keep Louisiana Beautiful and twenty-three affiliates, including Keep Greater Lake Charles Beautiful-Team Green, participate in a statewide litter-a-thon in March each year.  This event is an effort to educate and involve community leaders in the fight against litter in Louisiana.  The event ends with a press conference in Baton Rouge when Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser announces the results.

Leaders Against Litter gives local leaders the opportunity to demonstrate their support for keeping Louisiana beautiful by leading the charge against litter in our community.  Local government officials along with business and community leaders join Keep Greater Lake Charles Beautiful-Team Green across a one mile route within the City of Lake Charles.  They collect litter in an effort to beautify the area in support of the City of Lake Charles and volunteerism.

Before the event begins, leaders sign a pledge board confirming their commitment to SPEAK UP and spread the word that litter is not acceptable; to PICK UP litter whenever they see it; and to STAND UP and lead the way for a litter-free Louisiana.  The pledge board becomes a traveling display appearing at different locations where other leaders and citizens can sign the pledge, engaging even more individuals and extending the impact of Leaders Against Litter.  This event also kicks off the Great American Cleanup held in the months of March, April and May.

Members of the community can become involved by emailing blake.trahan@cityoflc.us or calling 491-1481.
