Santa Claus and Sasol are teaming up for a natural ornament craft day in the park on Monday, December 23, from 9 a.m. to noon at Riverside Park (1700 Fitzenreiter Road).

Nature in Focus, a Sasol-sponsored Partners in Parks initiative, will provide loose natural items to choose from for making ornaments. Each attendee will be able to make both an ornament and a bird feeder. Those interested can bring a clean milk carton, milk jug, or large juice bottle to a recycled bird feeder craft.

“Decembers in Southwest Louisiana are often filled with pine cones, interesting leaves, and other natural artifacts,” said Irvin Louque, City of Lake Charles Park Program Manager. “This holiday season we want to share ways you can bring nature into your life through arts and crafts.”

Attendance is limited to 25 kids, so please reserve a spot by email or phone (irvin.louque@cityoflc.us or 337-491-8770).

“Our parks are a critical component of quality of life in the City of Lake Charles,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “Programs like these are a small part of a larger effort we are making across the city through our Partners in Parks initiative to expand opportunities for citizens of all ages to make their way outside and explore science and nature in their own backyard.”

In July of 2018 the City of Lake Charles launched its citywide Partners in Parks initiative aimed at investing private and public dollars to improve park infrastructure and expand programming.
