On Thursday, January 9, at 5 p.m., the City of Lake Charles’ popular Teen Connection series will return for the spring semester with a session titled Be your Own Boss. Start your Own Business.  

This free session will be held at Ward 3 Recreation’s Huber Park Recreation Center (2401 4th Ave.).  

In a world of more than 582 million entrepreneurs, small businesses and ambitious enterprises are at the heart of every industry. For many, business ownership is a great career choice allowing for a better work/life balance and more income. This Teen Connection session will focus on how to be your own boss by starting your own business.

On Thursday, January 16, from 5-6 p.m., Teen Connection will focus on how to Upload your Future: Careers in Technology. This free session will be held at Cpl Donald Ray Stevens Community Center (1619 Cessford St.).

Additional topics slated for the spring semester include Awesome Jobs No One Really Knows About and How to Land Them, The Millionaire Mindset, Dollars and Sense, Credit or Leave it: The Importance of Establishing Credit, The Future Begins Today and Invest your Way Up: Basics of the Stock Market.

In October 2017, the City of Lake Charles began hosting the free Teen Connection seminars for teenagers, 13 to 18 years old, in Calcasieu Parish. Teen Connection is designed to help teenagers learn job skills, college prep, social media, interview skills, and ACT prep among others. The classes are instructed by educators, government officials, and business leaders in the community.

Teen Connection is presented by the City of Lake Charles and is sponsored by Lake City Trucking, Porche Plumbing and Piping, Pat Williams Construction, Wendell White, Inc., Pedersen Auto Title Co., GMFS Lending, Hawkins Legal (Attorney Tara Hawkins), Citadel Completions, Taco Bell, Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Popeyes, Leonard’s Food Quarters, Mr. Gatti’s, Outback Steakhouse and Paul’s Ribshack.
