The City of Lake Charles is providing the following Halloween safety recommendations for Lake Charles residents.

With many residential streetlights still out and ongoing debris collection efforts underway, the City recommends that trick-or-treat activities end at 6 p.m., prior to nightfall. Parents are encouraged to have their children home by 6:30 p.m. unless they are attending a supervised function sponsored by other parents or church or civic organizations.

In light of ongoing concerns over the spread of COVID-19, the CDC provides the following tips for making trick-or-treating a safer experience this Halloween:

  • Avoid direct contact with trick-or-treaters.
  • Give out treats outdoors, if possible.
  • Set up a station with individually bagged treats for kids to take.
  • Wash hands before handling treats.
  • Wear a mask. A costume mask is not a substitute for a cloth mask. Do not wear a costume mask over a cloth mask as it could make breathing more difficult. Instead, make your cloth mask part of your costume. Masks should not be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing.
