The City of Lake Charles Mayor’s Commission on Disability hosted its Biennial Disability Awareness Conference entitled “Able and Capable Leaders in the Workforce: Today, Tomorrow and the Future” at the Lake Charles Civic Center, located at 900 Lakeshore Dr., in the Contraband Room, on Thursday, April 14, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Keynote speakers for the biennial event were Jeremy Furs of First Federal Bank; Edward Kron, a veteran representative; Nelson Dronet, The Missing Piece; and Tara Trahan, a McNeese State University student.

The event will included exhibits and workshops. Entertainment included Zydeco Aerobics, The International Dance Company, and Westlake High School Jazz Band. 

The City of Lake Charles Mayor’s Commission on Disability was formed in 1983 to expand the opportunities of persons with physical or mental disabilities and enhance their contribution to society. The organization works with individuals, organizations, businesses, and professionals to strengthen public understanding of the needs and potential contributions of persons with disabilities.
