Basic Qualification Requirements

  • Must be a Citizen of the United States
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid Louisiana Drivers License

Additional Qualification Requirements

  • Pass a written Civil Service Examination

  • Pass a background investigation
  • Pass an Oral Interview Board
  • Pass medical/physical examinations, including a drug screen

Salary and Benefits

Lake Charles firefighters are paid semi-monthly and can expect to receive a beginning annual salary of $31,566.08. In addition, firefighters will receive $500.00 per month supplemental pay or $6,000.00 annually for their first year of service. After the successful completion of one year's employment, the firefighter will receive from the state of Louisiana a $500.00 per month supplemental pay check, in lieu of the City's supplemental pay.
