Citizens Encouraged to Spruce Up Yards for Upcoming Cleanest City Contest State Judging
State judging in the Cleanest City Contest will take place in Lake Charles on Friday, May 4, and the citizens of Lake Charles are encouraged to beautify their yards prior to that day to help in the effort. Picking up litter, removing weeds, planting flowers, and landscaping improvements will help improve the appearance of property and contribute to the overall attractiveness of the City as it prepares to compete at the state level.
Said Mayor Roach:
"Our win at the District level, which allows us to compete for this award, was due to the many volunteers who assisted in this effort and the many citizens who cleaned up their yards. Now it's time to take our city-wide beautification efforts to the next level as we prepare to compete in the state final competition."
Said Ellie Lemoine, Lake Charles Garden Club:
"Lake Area citizens can help by informing their friends and business owners about the contest on Friday, May 4. They can also help by keeping their lawns mowed and sidewalks edged. Colorful flower plantings always brighten a landscape, so this is encouraged, and, of course, picking up any litter they see will help. Litter thrown out of vehicles or from the back of trucks is not only against the law, but also unsightly."
On March 30, the City of Lake Charles was notified by Cleanest City Contest judges from the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc. that it had passed the District level of the Cleanest City Contest and had qualified to enter the state Cleanest City Contest.
The City was recently entered into the District competition by the Lake Charles Garden Club and Diggers and Weeders Garden Club of Lake Charles.
The Cleanest City Contest is a litter prevention program sponsored by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc.
