Marine Corps League and U.S. Army Special Forces Motorcycle Riders

Donate to First Lieutenant Douglas B. Fournet Memorial

The Marine Corps League, Detachment 535 and the U.S. Army Special Forces Motorcycle Riders ODA XXX/LXXXI together recently donated $8,500 to the First Lieutenant Douglas B. Fournet Memorial Fund of the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana.

The donation will be used in support of a project to honor First Lieutenant Douglas B. Fournet at Veterans Memorial Park.  Fournet, a native of Lake Charles, was awarded the Medal of Honor, posthumously in April of 1970, for his selfless act of sacrifice in May of 1968 during the Vietnam War.

Said Mayor Randy Roach, co-chair; Mayor's Committee for the First Lieutenant Douglas B. Fournet Memorial:

"Many thanks to the Marine Corps League, Detachment 535 and the U.S. Army Special Forces Motorcycle Riders ODA XXX/LXXXI for their wonderful donation to the First Lieutenant Douglas B. Fournet Memorial.  We are greatly appreciative of the overwhelming support for this project from the community and this donation is another fine example of that tremendous level of support."

Said District Attorney John DeRosier, chair, Mayor's Committee for the First Lieutenant Douglas B. Fournet Memorial:

"It is remarkable that our military organizations like The Marine Corps League and

U. S. Army Special Forces Motorcycle Riders, the members of which have already honorably served their country, honor and pay tribute to one of its fallen heroes."
