Blood Drive Planned for Law Enforcement and First Responders
On Thursday, July 28, 2016, a blood donation drive is planned to demonstrate support for local law enforcement officers and first responders. The event will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Lake Charles Civic Center Contraband Room, 900 Lakeshore Drive.
City Councilman Mark Eckard said the idea came from one of his constituents. “He told me he wanted to be able to help in a very tangible way. After shootings, sometimes blood shortages occur in hospitals. This is one way that we as a community can show our officers and first responders that we stand behind them
“Each day, these men and women put their lives on the line to protect us,” said Mayor Roach. “Unfortunately the events of recent weeks demonstrate just how important it is that blood be available when needed in times of tragedy."
The drive, planned by the City of Lake Charles in conjunction with Lifeshare Blood Centers, will be open to the public.
Potential blood donors should expect to receive a mini-physical prior to the donation procedure, including a check of temperature, pulse, blood pressure and iron level. Donors must be age 16 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well and healthy at the time of donation, eat a good meal and increase fluid intake prior to donation. Donors will be asked to present identification. For more information, call 337 436-4932.
