City Announcements Relative to Hurricane Harvey
The City of Lake Charles is preparing for heavy rain and possible street flooding in the area over the next few days, due to Hurricane Harvey.
Millennium Park, located at Lakeshore Drive and Bord Du Lac Drive, will be closed Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27.
The Fitzenreiter boat launch, located in Riverside Park, will be closed effective immediately.
At this time, no interruptions in city services are planned. Any suspension in services will be posted atwww.cityoflakecharles.com and the City’s Facebook page @LakeCharlesLouisiana
All public safety employees and public works crews will be continuously monitoring street conditions over the weekend. Because of high tides and projected rainfall, street flooding will likely occur. If you must drive on the streets, drive slowly to avoid creating wakes that can add to residential flooding.
Public works crews are now placing barricades on the neutral ground near the edge of flood-prone roadways. Should water begin to quickly rise in these areas, city workers can more readily move barricades into the streets to alert drivers of the flooding hazard.
Sand and bags are available in Calcasieu Parish at the following locations: East Ward 1 Barn (461 Parish Road, Moss Bluff), Ward 2 Barn (7085 La. 14 East, Hayes), East Ward 3 Old Barn (2320 Smith Road, Lake Charles), East Ward 3 Public Works Facility (James Sudduth Parkway, behind 5500B Swift Plant Road, Lake Charles), Ward 4 (Sulphur Police Department parking lot, corner of Live Oak and Burton streets), Ward 5 (Corner of Berry and Third Streets, Starks), Ward 6 Barn (1275 Plum Street, DeQuincy), Ward 7 Edgerly Fire Station (2205 La. 388, Vinton), Ward 7 Fire Department (2815 Foreman Road, Vinton), and Ward 8 Barn (1726 Parish Barn Road, Iowa). The public must furnish their own shovels.
Stay tuned to local media outlets and the National Weather Service in Lake Charles for future weather advisories.
