City Announcements Relative to Tropical Storm Harvey
According to the National Weather Service, Harvey has weakened to a tropical storm and will remain in central Texas through the middle of next week. Southwest Louisiana will remain under the threat of heavy rains, floods, and isolated tornadoes in the outer rain bands. Some river flooding and street flooding are expected.
The City of Lake Charles will continue to monitor weather conditions, but at this time, no interruptions in city services are planned. Any suspension in services will be posted at www.cityoflakecharles.com and the City’s Facebook page @LakeCharlesLouisiana.
Said Mayor Nic Hunter, "Please remain vigilant because weather can be very unpredictable. I want to commend the cohesive efforts between government agencies, law enforcement and emergency preparedness leaders. The coordination between them is unparalleled. I also want to thank the City's public works and public safety employees who are continuously monitoring street conditions. Their dedication to Lake Charles and its residents is apparent."
Millennium Park, located at Lakeshore Drive and Bord Du Lac Drive, will remain closed through Sunday, August 27.
The Fitzenreiter boat launch, located in Riverside Park, is closed until further notice.
Sand and bags are available in Calcasieu Parish on Sunday, August 27 beginning at 8 a.m. at the following locations: Burton Complex (7001 Gulf Highway South), East Ward 1 Barn (461 Parish Road, Moss Bluff), Ward 2 Barn (7085 La. 14 East, Hayes), East Ward 3 Old Barn (2320 Smith Road, Lake Charles), East Ward 3 Public Works Facility (James Sudduth Parkway, behind 5500B Swift Plant Road, Lake Charles), Ward 4 (Sulphur Police Department parking lot, corner of Live Oak and Burton streets), Ward 5 (Corner of Berry and Third Streets, Starks), Ward 6 Barn (1275 Plum Street, DeQuincy), Ward 7 Edgerly Fire Station (2205 La. 388, Vinton), Ward 7 Fire Department (2815 Foreman Road, Vinton), and Ward 8 Barn (1726 Parish Barn Road, Iowa). The public must furnish their own shovels.
