November Guided Bird Walks
The City of Lake Charles, as part of its Partners in Parks initiative, is teaming up with the Gulf Coast Bird Club to offer two guided bird walks during the month of November.
The first walk will take place at Tuten Park, 3801 Nelson Road, on Friday, November 2, from 9-10:30 a.m.
The second walk will take place at Riverside Park, 1700 Fitzenreiter Road, on Friday, November 16, from 9-10:30 a.m.
“Southwest Louisiana is a bird watcher’s paradise and the month of November still offers some great opportunities to spot numerous species such as the White-throated Sparrow, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Ring-billed Gull, Song Sparrow and more,” said Irvin Louque, Tuten Park program manager. “Both parks offer up the perfect natural habitats to attract a wide variety of birds.”
Participants should bring their own binoculars and prepare accordingly for biting insects and weather conditions.
There is no cost to attend the walks, but pre-registration is requested and can be completed by visiting bit.ly/TutenEd or calling (337) 491-8770.
“Our parks are a critical component of quality of life in the City of Lake Charles,” added Mayor Nic Hunter. “Programs like these are a small part of a larger effort we are making across the city through our Partners in Parks initiative to expand opportunities for citizens of all ages to make their way outside and explore science and nature in their own backyard.”
In July of 2018 the City of Lake Charlese launched its citywide Partners in Parks initiative aimed at investing private and public dollars to improve park infrastructure and expand programming.
