City of Lake Charles Partners in Parks Initiative and Park Patrol Ranger Program Receive Statewide Recognition
Two City of Lake Charles initiatives received statewide recognition last week at the Louisiana Recreation and Park Association’s annual conference held in Baton Rouge.
The Partners in Parks Initiative was recognized for outstanding contributions and support to the citizens of the State of Louisiana.
In July of 2018 Mayor Nic Hunter, on behalf of the City of Lake Charles, launched this citywide initiative aimed at combing private and public dollars to improve park infrastructure and expand programming. Since its inception, Partners in Parks has added more than $500,000 into City parks with no additional burden to tax payers.
The Park Patrol Ranger Program was recognized as the most innovative program in leisure services in the State of Louisiana in Class II.
Launched in August of last year, the Park Patrol Ranger Program is a park-based program geared towards children 8 and older. The program’s goal is to aid in developing responsibility, respect and care for others. Free to the public, Park Patrol Rangers help keep City parks clean, safe and in good repair for the community.
“Parks are invaluable when it comes to quality of life for any city,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “The Partners in Parks Initiative and the Park Patrol Ranger Program are just two examples of our commitment to expanding opportunities for citizens of all ages to make their way outside and explore science and nature in their own backyard.”
