The City of Lake Charles and Team Green will host their annual Beach Sweep and Inland Waterway Cleanup on Saturday, September 21, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Held on the third Saturday of September each year, Beach Sweep and Inland Waterway Cleanup is held in conjunction with the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup.

Volunteers will meet at 7:30 a.m. in the parking lot on the west side of the old Harrah’s parking garage for a pre-event briefing.  Following the briefing, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., volunteers will collect trash and record their collections with data cards. From 11 a.m. to noon, there will be an event wrap-up with comments from Mayor Nic Hunter, including awards presentations, and refreshments.

“Team Green is asking for volunteer groups, service clubs, and families who will commit to helping cleanup one of our area’s beaches, shorelines, boat launches, or inland waterways in order to keep it beautiful and environmentally safe,” said Mason Lindsay, Keep Greater Lake Charles Beautiful volunteer coordinator.

Waste Management will provide trash receptacles on the west side of the old Harrah’s parking garage to bring the trash that will be collected that morning.
