Citys Popular Teen Connection Series Returns This Week
On Thursday, November 7, at 5 p.m., the City of Lake Charles’ popular Teen Connection series returns to Cpl Donald Ray Stevens Community Center (1619 Cessford St.). There is no charge to attend and the topic for the session is The Skill to Heal: Careers in Healthcare.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in healthcare occupations is projected to grow 18% from 2016 to 2026. This is much faster than the average for all occupations and equates to about 2.4 million new jobs.
This Teen Connection session will focus on providing attendees with valuable information on the types of careers available in the field of healthcare.
On Thursday, November 14, from 5-6 p.m., Teen Connection will focus on The Elite Athlete’s Secret to Achievement, Performance and Recruitment. Each year thousands of high school students compete for collegiate athletic scholarships across the country. Competition is fierce as there are many talented, dedicated athletes hoping to secure a
relatively small number of scholarships.
How do grades, social media presence and other elements factor into the recruiting process? What can you do to improve your odds? This ever popular session returns with valuable information for athletes hoping to play at the next level. This free session will also be held at Cpl Donald Ray Stevens Community Center.
Additional topics slated for the fall semester include Simple Strategies to Improve your Writing Skills and How to Choose a College Major.
In October 2017, the City of Lake Charles began hosting the free Teen Connection seminars for teenagers, 13 to 18 years old, in Calcasieu Parish. Teen Connection is designed to help teenagers learn job skills, college prep, social media, interview skills, and ACT prep among others.
