The third week of June is National Pollinator Week, and Tuten Park (3801 Nelson Rd.) will celebrate pollinators with a free seminar called “Plants for Pollinators.” A Nature in Focus/Partners in Parks event, the seminar will take place on Saturday, June 26, at 10 a.m.

In partnership with Greengate Garden Center, “Plants for Pollinators” will be an educational event where participants will have the opportunity to learn about Louisiana pollinators and the native plants they depend on for survival.

Tuten Park was established to provide a refuge for native flowers and the animals. It remains closed to the public at this time while hurricane repairs are ongoing and will open only for this special event on Saturday, June 26, from 10 – 11 a.m.

The Pollinator Garden, Rain Garden, and many community-maintained raised beds provide many types of native flowers that bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators depend on. The community is invited to come out to the National Pollinator Week talk to learn more about the park and its efforts to benefit local pollinators. About Partners in Parks and Nature in Focus.

In July of 2018, the City of Lake Charles launched its citywide Partners in Parks initiative, through the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana, in an effort to encourage the investment of private and public dollars to improve park infrastructure and expand programming.

Nature in Focus, launched under the umbrella of Partners in Parks, is a partnership with Sasol to highlight the natural beauty of, and to provide educational programming at, the City’s nature sanctuaries located at Tuten and Riverside Parks in the City of Lake Charles.
