A voluntary evacuation has been issued for Calcasieu Parish. The City of Lake Charles Transit System will be operating Saturday, August 28 only from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. to transport citizens wishing to evacuate. Citizens wishing to take advantage of this service should go to any City of Lake Charles bus stop during the times listed above.

Social distancing and mask wearing is being enforced on the buses.

Buses will transport citizens to Burton Coliseum and upon arrival at this site, will be placed on a bus provided by the State of Louisiana and transported to either a shelter in Alexandria and/or other safe location administered by the State. Hotels will not be available through this option. 

Citizens wishing to evacuate by this means, but who do not need transportation to Burton Coliseum, can drive their own vehicle to the complex as well. Buses will begin leaving at 8 a.m. with the last bus departing at 6 p.m.   

Local officials will keep track of where citizens are transported.

Utilization of this service is highly encouraged for citizens wishing to evacuate but who may not have the means to do so.

The City of Lake Charles continues to monitor Hurricane Ida. All City facilities, including City Hall, Historic City Hall, Central School and the Public Works Administration Building will be closed on Monday, August 30, 2021 due to the threat of inclement weather.

Public safety and other essential personnel will continue to operate.

The City expects to resume regular services at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.  

City Transit services will be suspended on Monday, August 30, 2021 and trash and garbage schedules will be altered.

Trash and garbage normally collected on Monday will be collected on Tuesday instead. Trash and garbage normally collected on Tuesday will be collected on Wednesday.

City officials do advise residents to bring their trash cans back in and secure them after they are emptied and to pick up any loose items in their yards.
