The City of Lake Charles Mayor’s Commission on Disability and Families Helping Families will host its Biennial Disability Awareness Conference entitled “Invest in your Ability – Build your Toolbox” at the Lake Charles Civic Center, located at 900 Lakeshore Dr., in the Contraband Room, on Wednesday, October 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Keynote Speaker for the biennial event is Bruce Hamilton of No Bad Days.

This year’s theme will help ensure that the important work of expanding opportunities for individuals with all disabilities continues in our community.  The conference promises to be another great event that will help individuals with disabilities build their toolbox by providing inspiration and information.

The event marks the return of the conference for the first time since 2018.  A light lunch will be provided by Raising Cane’s.

Information on resources from select agencies, and entertainment will also be a part of the conference.

The City of Lake Charles Mayor’s Commission on Disability was formed in 1983 to expand the opportunities of persons with physical or mental disabilities and enhance their contribution to society. The organization works with individuals, organizations, businesses, and professionals to strengthen public understanding of the needs and potential contributions of persons with disabilities.

The event is free to the public, and it is made possible by a number of sponsors including Manpower, the City of Lake Charles and Families Helping Families.
