Mayors Armed Forces Commission to Host Army Birthday Celebration and Flag Retirement Ceremony
On Saturday, June 14, the City of Lake Charles Mayor’s Armed Forces Commission (MAFC) will host a dual ceremony to celebrate the United States Army’s 250th Birthday and to honor the American flag as part of Flag Day.
The events will take place at Veterans Memorial Park, located on Lakeshore Drive.
At 5:30 pm, MAFC President Capt. Kelly Miseles, US Army (Ret.), will lead a celebration honoring the 250th birthday of the United States Army. This celebration will take place at the First Lieutenant Douglas B. Fournet statue at the park’s entrance.
Immediately following this celebration, beginning at 6 pm, a flag retirement ceremony will be held in honor of Flag Day. The community is invited to bring their flags that are no longer serviceable for proper disposal. MAFC member and US Marine veteran Richard Morgan will serve as commander over this ceremony.
Limited seating is available, so attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair to comfortably take part in the events.
